Our Topanga Fougère is something pretty special. Unlike many fougeres, the Topanga Fougère scent was created using only essential oils and extracts.
This scent was inspired (but does not particularly resemble) Houbigant's Fougère Royale, which was originally created by the then 20 year old Paul Parquet in 1882 and gave its name to an entire family of fragrances. Fougère is French for fern, which does not have much of a scent. The term is used to describe the combined woody, floral, and herbal scents of an imagined forest floor.
Topanga Fougère balances a blend of floral (lavender, geranium), woody (ho wood, balsam tolu), and herbal (clary sage, vetiver, patchouli, sweet myrrh) notes, among others, for a wonderful late summer scent. Parquet once said that "If God gave ferns a scent, they would smell like Fougère Royale." While I won't make such almighty claims for our Topanga Fougère, I do think this would be a great choice for your next shaving soap.

Lovely soap with a rich creamy lather. The base is also the slickest around. Finally. The LA Shaving Soap fragrances are super. I LOVE their soaps!
Love the scent of this soap and it performs great. Happy to support a vegan company.
First time using LA Shave Soap. I really wanted to love this. The scent is amazing and filled the whole bathroom. After applying it created a stinging sensation. I assumed perhaps there was menthol or another ingredient causing that intentionally. Left my skin raw and burning afterwards. On the second attempt, I broke out in small hives. I love the scent but am clearly allergic to something in the formula. Not sure what to do with it now…
Soap is a shadow of its former self. Doesn't lather and performance is awful. Contscted vendor but have yet to hear from anyone. Will ser if anyone responds.
I don't baby my soaps by using distilled water or anything special. I use the mineral rich (hard) water that comes out the tap here in Los Angeles. Easy to lather, and provides me with enough protection to get irritation free shaves every day. Even after applying LASSC after shave, never a hint of burn/irritation. Love the post shave feel I get from this soap. I have two other well regarded brands of tallow soap in rotation, here at home. LASSC keeps up with them, and provides a better post shave feel. Will purchase again when I'm done with current batch of soap I'm using.
